GAMES AND TRAINS

There’s something I love about playing board games. You’re spending time with friends and family, you get to strategize, earn the right to brag a little bit while learning to be a completely good loser, of course. I think what I’ve loved about growing up most, is starting to understand and appreciate my parents humor. And board games work wonderfully at bringing that out. And maybe it’s just me, but they are also a great stress reliever.

Train sets are fantastic too. Every year for Christmas, a house in my neighborhood goes all out with lights and decorations. Including a huge miniature town with at least four trains running through it. One even carries candy in it and stops for you to grab some! I shouldn’t have to tell you that it’s my favorite one.

Many people from who knows where, drive into our neighborhood much to any traffic-despiser’s frustration to see this work of art.

The worst part? I’ve lived near these people for years, and this year was my first year to go explore.

The better part? A part of me fell in love. I wanted to run home and buy miniature homes and trains and railroads and little people and trees and everything! I wanted to go buy my own home and dedicate a room to a train village.

Don’t worry my lack of funds stopped me from doing any of this. But seriously, when I have children, any gift they receive up until they turn thirteen may just be train-related.
