Birthdays have always been a family thing for us. Rather than do the whole party with friends, co-workers, and the few random people you don't actually know, we spend time together until the special birthday person is sick of everyone.
So this year gorgeous sister Lindsay and her aussie hubby got put in charge of dinner duty, while I scavenged for a delicious dessert that wouldn't completely put my mom off her goal to lose weight.
Do you realize how hard it is to find a healthy dessert when you have a sweet tooth the size of a tyrannosaurus's canine tooth? Pretty dag'um hard.
There was this oh so wonderful, decadent frozen peanut butter pie that almost made me cry that my mother would even consider being on a diet. But I pulled myself together and finally decided on some simple baked apples, lightly brushed with butter, cinnamon sugar, and brown sugar. It may not be 100% healthy, but it was close enough. And man was it good! Then my mom splurged on her calorie budget and topped the ooey gooey yummy apples with some caramel vanilla ice cream, basically defeating my purpose of trying to find something healthy. However, I was not one to complain.
Let's just say that there was no getting sick of each other this year, as the night was ended in a nearly silent manner, accented by the slight tinkering of spoons against bowls.
Oh, and dinner was great too... Sorry Linds... didn't mean to take the spotlight on this one.
Better yet, lets put the spotlight on mom. The wonderful, beautiful woman whose age could never be guessed by just looking at her!
Oops, wrong one. See.. you never know what you'll get when my family gets together. Its a scary thing.
Mama taught us well!
I think this is better.
We love our mama.
